What is osteonecrosis of the jaw?

What does osteonecrosis of the jaw mean? Ischemic osteonecrosis (IO), also referred to as NICO (“neuralgia-inducing cavitational osteonecrosis”), is defined as inflammation of the jaw, which may even involve the complete destruction of the bone. Cases of NICO frequently occur after a tooth has been extracted, due to injuries or following radiation, such as during cancer treatment. However, the inflammation may also occur for no apparent reason. Osteonecrosis is a problem areaand may lead to severe physical and mental complaints if not treated. The treatment of NICO generally consists of extracting the necrotic and adjacent bone along with prior and post treatment to stabilize the immune system.

Ischämische Osteonekrosen & Weisheitszähne

Ischemic osteonecrosis frequently occurs in connection with wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are a common problem, particularly in Western industrial countries. Due to a shorter breastfeeding time, the jaw does not grow large enough. Wisdom teeth then do not have enough space to erupt and therefore frequently need to be removed in a surgical procedure between the ages of 12 and 20. This operation is usually accompanied by incomplete cleaning of the wound, an orally administered antibiotic, which weakens the immune system, and major swelling. These conditions may prevent the bone defect from fully healing. For this reason, 90 % of all wisdom teeth operations result in ischemic osteonecrosis, or NICO.

At present, there is not yet any non-invasive or partially invasive treatment available that can fully cure ischemic osteonecrosis. Only minimally invasive, atraumatic yet radical surgical removal of the NICO according to the SWISS BIOHEALTH CONCEPT is able to bring complete healing to the area. Treatment of maxillary osteitis in the SWISS BIOHEALTH CLINIC

The treatment of osteonecrosis of the jaw is part of the second step of dental rehabilitation and the SWISS BIOHEALTH ALL IN ONE CONCEPT.
To diagnose osteonecrosis, we first take a 3D X-ray (DVT). From four weeks before the procedure, you should take the BOOST nutritional supplement.
The osteonecroses are then removed quadrant by quadrant in ALL-IN-ONE surgery. This takes about 30 minutes per region.

After the procedure, we recommend taking the BOOST supplement again for four weeks. This promotes the healing process and stabilizes your immune system.

Die Kieferostitis/NICO lässt sich mit viel Erfahrung bereits auf dem Orthopantomogramm (Panorama-Röntgen = 2D) erahnen. Eine zuverlässigere Diagnose erhält man jedoch über eine 3D-Aufnahme (DVT).

Öffnet der Zahnarzt das Zahnfleisch über der NICO, kann er diese häufig an der Gelb- bis Braunfärbung des Knochens erkennen. Diese Verfärbung kommt von einer Cholesterin-Einlagerung (LDL). Zudem glänzt bei Öffnung des Knochens das Blut durch die darauf schwimmenden Fettaugen.

Bei einer Kieferostitis sind die Entzündungsmediatoren RANTES und FGF-2 signifikant erhöht. Diese beiden Mediatoren sind auch im Gewebe bei Brustkrebs und anderen schweren Erkrankungen, wie ALS, MS oder rheumatischer Arthritis vorzufinden. NICO’s gelten somit durch die Produktion von RANTES und FGF-2 als wesentliche Ursache von Autoimmunerkrankungen.
